AMENO
is a network of diverse educators, community members
and parents in Ontario who are active in Antiracist
Education. We work to eliminate broad-based and
systemic biases, and to replace barriers with acceptance
and inclusion for every individual.
AMENO was founded in 1987. Its original members
were school board staff responsible for implementing
provincial anti-racism policies. Today teachers,
parents and community leaders continue to call for
inclusive environments and practices. Equity resources
are still required. Students will always need help
to understand the past and how it shapes their future.
AMENO provides a forum for its members to:

learn more about inclusive and antiracist education
strategies and issues relating to forms of discrimination
including: race and ethno-cultural equity, anti-Semitism,
gender, disabilities, sexual orientation, age, class,
language, faith, and all issues covered by the Ontario
Human Rights Code.

speak out against injustice and bias

network to support, share and promote equity-based
initiatives

educate, through a variety of models, including
workshops, seminars speakers, resources and on-line
discussions " advocate for those whose voices are
silenced by systemic and broad-based bias
AMENO Working Group - This is the steering group comprised of Board members and the key people coming to the table each month. The purpose of the core group is to lead AMENO in programming, outreach, strategic ideas and planning. This is a monthly working group.
AMENO Members – This is a group of individuals and organizations who have paid their yearly membership dues. The paid members demonstrate their commitment to the mandate by supporting
AMENO financially.
AMENO Equity Summit Group – This is a group of equity and board reps from school Boards throughout Ontario. The purpose of the Equity Summit Group is to provide Board officials and Board equity reps to speak to each other and share current initiatives, programs and discuss common concerns.
